Skilful Soccer Schools

FA Coaching Association senior member Dave Selway, Director of  Skilful Soccer Schools, has over 20 years experience as a teacher and coach of children of all ages both in this country and abroad.

With an Honours Degree in Physical Education from Southampton University and a Full Licence F.A. Coaching badge, the former semi-professional with Waterlooville F.C., has a deep understanding of the ways in which young children best acquire skills and the coaching techniques most suited to their needs.

He believes that learning should be;

FUN!! Enjoyment helps to eliminate anxiety and promotes skills learning.

Is best achieved in a safe, friendly and controlled environment where good behaviour is the norm.

Individual and team-based, teaching children to co-operate and work well with others.

Where winning at all costs is NOT the aim.

Dave says ' Our matches are about enjoyment, the results are not
important, the use of new techniques and development of
team play are.'

All staff have been C R B checked to an Enhanced Level and are F.A. Level 1 or 2 qualified and are first aid trained.

 Sessions are conducted in a safe, well controlled environment.

We make learning FUN – most of our coaching for younger children is through enjoyable play like activities and games

We make sure children are ACTIVE for as much time as possible

We use 3v3 and 4v4 often with no goalkeepers and up to 4 Goals – as recommended by the Football Associations of  England, U.S.A ,Holland and Brazil.

We understand that young children need individual attention and care.

Skilful Soccer uses small groups with an excellent ratio of coaches to children.

 We use a ball for each child - children need to practice with a ball at their feet, so right from the warm-up children learn to manipulate and control a football.
